Random thoughts

On my jog earlier I watched a guy walking his dogs let one of them take a big crap right in the middle of someone's driveway, then walk off. Some people, huh. I briefly considered following him back to his house so that I could take a dump in his driveway...

On a not-so-related note, I got a random girls fashion catalog in my mailbox today so I flipped through it. Meh, nothing special... until I got to the page with the special Granny-sized "Sanitary" fully-lined panties designed for pad-wearers. And they're advertising a special one for wear during the day & one for night. And there's 2 pages of these. Um, ok. I start to wonder: is there a market for these? Perhaps you don't really want to know about the use of tampons versus pads in Japan but I'm going to tell you anyways. It seems that in Japan tampon-users are in the minority. The sanitary aisle in the grocery store is largely stocked with pads, which leaves a crap selection in the tiny tampon section (and of the selection the ones there are, in fact, tiny). I know all the western girls in Japan can totally feel me on this point as most of us end up bringing over our own supplies or having them mailed to us (unless you're lucky enough to be in a big city). From what I can tell, most Japanese women use pads. Uncomfortable, anyone? Bueller? Therefore, there is a market for these pad-fitting panties! Wow, that's kind of weird.

the never-ending winter

I keep expecting it to warm up. Each day I think, "Ok, maybe tomorrow it'll be warmer." And then it's not. And then the next, & the next. Arrrrgh. They call this spring? Will winter never end?

Dun dun nah nah!

Last month I spent a few hours learning how to put on my kimono properly (whew, what a process! it's about as complicated as doing taxes) with the help of my host mom & sister. My host sister Kumiko took this pic on her cell phone, which is why it's tiny.

Truth is stranger than fiction

Below is a recent email from the one & only Rylock. Cheers for that dude, hilarious! Has American culture become a little too celebrity-obsessed? You be the judge...

Truth is stranger than fiction

As part of a pro-life art exhibit, a statue of a nude Britney Spears giving birth on a bear skin rug will be revealed in the upcoming weeks in a museum in Brooklyn, NY. No. I am not kidding.

You can check out a news article on it here:

Or if you only care about seeing it (like me), than you should check out these direct links of pictures of two different angles of the statue. Can anyone say "prego fetish?"
